what our participants say

The dLab Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship programme challenged me to attain a deeper understanding on how I view and apply design and innovation methodologies from a practical, sustainable, and collaborative approach. The course was intense, but equally rewarding, as participants were afforded the opportunity to engage peers regionally and take on fresh ideas and ways of working.

The dLab is a practical and project-based program where we were taught to innovate by developing our own socially-impacting product. Their course material was particularly novel and unfamiliar to me but quite applicable since I do conduct research that is centred on process and product development as an instructor at The Department of Chemistry at the University of the West Indies St Augustine Campus. I particularly loved the multidisciplinary approach and working with others from different countries, cultures and backgrounds. Our meetings were never boring! The speed dating sessions and masterclasses ensured that we were exposed to experts and their valued consultations guided our process.

This course has enabled me with a new skill set of knowledge applicable to my overall career and self-development. The topics are all relevant and delivered professionally by the subject matter experts. I found this course to be really detailed and intensive, covering all the areas of innovation from the drawing board to a reputable business. There are multiple instructors with expertises which makes it diverse. The discussions and activities are well organized for learners to gain a better understanding of innovation and entrepreneurship. Completing the course was worth the time and effort. Highly recommended to all learners to take this course.

I found the programme’s content extremely stimulating and inspiring. It forced me to think differently about innovating and equipped me the requisite tools to do so in the most effective and productive manner.
I really enjoyed our working group sessions with people from varied educational backgrounds. I consider the latter to be very valuable, as it provided many opportunities to learn from each other while pursuing the shared goal of innovating for a more sustainable world. The tutors’ approachability and accommodating nature made all the difference when, as a group, we felt lost.
Finally an institution that offers an online course that feels like a ‘real’ course, i.e. not compromising on the academic experience. The course was a perfect marriage of theoretical and practical knowledge.

dLab Global is a great practical learning experience in the areas of design and innovation. The coursework was intense, which really pushed our team to move past discomfort to generate ideas and insights. What we thought we knew changed many times, and this meant that we were learning. Dlab was completely iterative, from start to finish, which is key to being a good designer. Going back is the method to moving forward! I was really pleased with the process and impressed with what the end result was. I picked up a lot of great tools through the program that were laid out for us on the Miro board, while weekly sessions helped to dive deep into subject areas. The range of staff that was dedicated to our cohort worked well, and I was inspired by how their team worked together to deliver the course. While our cohort was distributed throughout the Caribbean and we were limited to remote learning – we managed to tap into the university’s 3d printing lab to help create a physical prototype of our design. One part of the course that I especially liked were the masterclasses where we were exposed to leaders in the areas of design and innovation. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity of this experience and would recommend anyone serious about learning design to take this course.
